IR receiver

The IR receiver module is for use with TV remote control handsets or with a second picXplorer system that transmits IR commands using the InfraOut box. The module detects short pulses of infra-red modulated at 38Kz. Data is encoded by the spacing of the infra-red pulses. i.e. different buttons on the remote control handset produce different timings between pulses.

IR receiver circuit details
The IR receiver outputs a low signal when receiving infra-red modulated at 38KHz. The active device, the TSOP4838, is only sensitive to short bursts burst of infra-red so it must be complemented with an appropriate transmitter such as a TV remote control handset. Alternatively, a suitable signal can be generated by a 38 KHz astable enabled and disabled by a slow astable switching at 10 Hz. D1 and C6 ensure that noise on the power supply lines do not affect operation of IC4.
