You may be aware that we are required to begin the implementation of a new ks3 programme of study from Sept 2008. (You can link to the new programme of study via the news section of the DATA website: www.data.org.uk) In response to the new programme of study, DATA strongly advocates that "all departments consider how resistant materials, systems and control AND textiles AND food can be effectively combined into courses built on the key concepts and processes and which result in the design and manufacture of high quality products." To this end, the workshop on the digital dice will introduce surface mount technology through the construction of one of Finham Park's key stage 3 projects, the digital dice. The project is very popular with pupils and includes the use of CAD/CAM to result in a high quality outcome of which students are rightly proud.
