Rapid prototyping course for key stage 3 and 4
The West Midlands Digital D&T Centre has been funded to develop the use of rapid prototyping technology in Design and Technology using a newly acquired Dimension BST 3D printer. The falling costs associated with 3D printing mean that the technology is becoming a cost effective reality for a growing number of schools. By keeping projects small scale, the cost becomes viable for large numbers of students to design and make high quality products.
The course is designed to give teachers experience of using the Dimension BST 3D printer and to suggest ways in which teachers can effectively use it for the benefit of their students without incurring high costs. The focus will be on enclosing electronic circuits using readily available kits from a variety of suppliers including a digital clock/watch module, a simple LED torch and a USB flash memory.
